bathroom ideas

So our current bathroom is probably my least favorite room in our house right now. We bought our with every intention of renovating the one (and only) bathroom down the road. In the meantime, I'm trying to get an idea of what not only would look better, but offer more space, function, and how to cut costs along the way.

Above are some photos I've found here and there. I am leaning towards a classic look: old console or table for the sink, metal faucet, white basin(s), subway tile. I also like the idea of mixing old french countryside furniture in with sleek wire & metal fixtures and organizers. Take a look and enjoy!

boring or beautiful?

Josh and I just finished painting our bedroom. What color, you ask? Well white of course! I've learned (the hard way) that color on the walls doesn't always represent warmth, fun, and personality. In fact, I think it detracts from all of the lovely/interesting things one acquires over time and place around a home. SO, we are sticking with white (which was once avocado green) and are really enjoying all the natural light and clean feeling we get from it.

I am collecting images of bedrooms that catch my eye, as we are moving from the renovation process on into the decoration process. Might sound boring, but I am leaning towards neutrals in fabrics, maybe one or two patterns, and then some pops of color through wall decor. Above are some images that I found and am using for inspiration. I will post before/after photos once the "after" part in completed!

southern fried snow

Here in the south, people are extremely proud, (as well as extremely terrified) of what little snow they do receive from time to time.  My firm will be opening late today, so I after my morning workout, I decided to snap a shot or two of our home.  It's not much, but still beautiful.

Dining Room Inspiration

Apparently it takes a lot longer for me to make progress on my new home than I thought. My husband and I recently moved into our first home in July. We've been taking our time accumulating pieces of furniture from here and there, but are still feeling incomplete.

I am hoping to tackle my current dining room's status (photos to come shortly), and wanted to share just a few things that are inspiring the direction I'm headed toward. Hope you like it!

refurbishing 101

I realized that I could really use some basic training on refurbishing furniture. I am one of those people who watch it done on HGTV or see it in a magazine and say "oh, I can do that -- easy." But the truth is, my lack of experience tends to show.

Nevertheless, I am soldiering on with a plan to purchase the above books from Amazon to get some much-needed instruction! Once I get a better grasp of this blog and the direction I would like to go, I will post more "instruction" or "how-to's" on refurbishing different pieces of furniture.

java table (after)

unfortunately, I do not have a "before" photo, but wanted to share this "after" with you. I found this old wooden table at a local thrift store, and loved the corner detailing. I've just moved into my first home, so am trying to be as thrifty as possible.

I decided that with my love of orange and the need to bring some fun into this part of my home that I would refurbish in the following ways:

- sand rough surfaces
- plaster/sand areas of table that were damaged
- create a cushion that will allow the table to serve as a place to rest drinks AND your feet

I chose a white pleather fabric since my cat LOVES to claw on all textured fabrics, and to make this cushion easy to clean. This is the first refurbishing of this kind that I have done, and am pretty pleased!

welcome

this is a new venture for me, where you will find photos and articles relating to home decor, design, and things that make me happy.
